Visually impaired (VI) judoka Zviad Gogotchuri of Georgia will face fully sighted judoka on Sunday as he lines up to compete in an event he won in its first year in 2014. After that competition Gogotchuri complained about his vision and after various tests it was deemed that he was partially sighted and he has since moved to VI judo in order to continue his passion on the biggest stages in world sport. Jeju Grand Prix silver medallist Maryna CHERNIAK (UKR) took her career to new heights as she won her first Grand Prix gold medal at the expense of Zagreb Grand Prix silver medallist Julia FIGUEROA (ESP) who was also fighting to achieve the same feat. World number nine CHERNIAK went one better than her Tbilisi Grand Prix 2014 silver medal as she opened the scoring after exactly 91 seconds as she produced a waza-ari score. Read more

Adam Okruashvili ends Grand Prix with gold for Georgia

Dusseldorf Grand Prix bronze medallist Adam Okruashvili from Georgia produced a perfect ending to the first Tbilisi Grand Prix as he defeated Junior world champion Anton Krivobokov (RUS) in the heavyweight final. European silver medallist Okruashvili opened the scoring with a waza-ari at the halfway mark from a harai-makikomi and ensured victory by holding down Russia’s young contender with a mune-gatame as the crowd rose to their feet and applauded. Turkish Baku Grand Slam bronze medallist Gulsah Kocaturk was in top form ahead of her home Grand Prix in Samsun next week as she topped the medal podium in the Georgian capital. Former Junior world bronze medallist Sandra Jablonskyte from Lithuania was comprehensively beaten by a yuko, waza-ari and osaekomi-waza for 15 seconds yielding wazari-awasette-ippon in a polished performance by Kocaturk.
