Ardanov won silver at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2017. With Yewara Newa he won the Golden League in 2017 in Ankara. He claimed a bronze medal at the European Open in Tallinn in 2019.

Japanese teen Hifumi Abe is the youngest ever winner of the Grand Slam in Paris and in the top 10 of youngest male winners ever in Paris. Ilias Iliadis was one of the youngest aged 18 in 2005, when the IJF didn’t yet have Grand Slams. Abe grabbed his first chance to perform at one of the sport’s flagship events with both hands as the 19-year-old sensation won the fourth Grand Slam gold medal of his career. Read more

Japanese Tateyama Sho won the first IJF gold medal of his young career with victory against 2013 Junior world champion An Ba-ul (KOR). Both judoka were unseeded but made their presence felt all day long to earn the right to decide the fate of the gold medal. The Japanese Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix bronze medallist , defeated 20-year old An who fights in Tokyo next week – by a single shido which was all that separated the judoka after five minutes of regulation time.
