Maeda Chishima doubles the gold rush for Japan
At the Grand Prix in Tel Aviv the category U52kg was a 100% Asian final with Jeong Bokyeong of Korea and Maeda Chishima of Japan qualified to climb onto the highest step of the podium. Olympic champion Majlinda Kelmendi of Kosovo extracted a degree of revenge for losing the 2018 Abu Dhabi final against Olympic silver medallist Odette Giuffrida (ITA) by beating her long-time rival to win the 2019 edition. Natsumi Tsunoda stays undefeated on Grand Prix stage
Former world silver medallist Tsunoda Natsumi (JPN) edged past Asian Games silver medallist Park Da Sol (KOR) by a single waza-ari score to win her second Grand Prix gold medal. Tsunoda, who is behind world champion Abe Uta and world silver medallist Shishime Ai in the race for Tokyo 2020, produced a professional performance to take a key win to remain in the frame for her country having been overlooked for a place at the World Championships next month.
