Zviad Gogotchuri of Georgia is Paralympic Champion of 2016 in Rio. In 2015 he won the IBSA European Championships in Lisbon. He took the European title for men U90kg. In 2015 he won the IBSA World Games in Seoul. In the non disabled division he won the World Cup in Bucharest, Oberwart and Tbilisi and collected several World Cup medals. He participated at World and European Championships and won European gold with the team of Georgia in 2013 and 2014 and with his club team.

At the last day of the Paralympic Games judo tournament five different winning nations and some stunning results. The last point of the tournament was priceless, ippon in two seconds, but painful for Brazil where home favourite Wilians Silva de Araujo was about to set the Carioca 3 on fire but Adiljan Tulendibaev of Uzbekistan snatched the title +100kg. Visually impaired (VI) judoka Zviad Gogotchuri of Georgia will face fully sighted judoka on Sunday as he lines up to compete in an event he won in its first year in 2014. After that competition Gogotchuri complained about his vision and after various tests it was deemed that he was partially sighted and he has since moved to VI judo in order to continue his passion on the biggest stages in world sport. Dusseldorf Grand Prix bronze medallist Zviad Gogotchuri was Georgia’s star performer on the final day as he bested Abu Dhabi Grand Prix winner Walter Facente (ITA). While Varlam Liparteliani (GEO) was ruled out with a thigh injury his teammate Gogotchuri stepped up to occasion and held the Italian with yoko-shiho-gatame after throwing him for waza-ari.
