Karla Prodan sets Zagreb on fire with bronze performance
At the seventh edition of the Grand Prix of Zagreb the home crowd cheered the whole day for its own athletes, but Karla Prodan stood out in her category U78kg. She coloured the day and took an unexpected bronze medal. Prodan gave back her smile to the crowd. It was a career-first for the 20-year-old who thrilled the youthful Croatian crowd who themselves graced the same tatami just hours prior for a masterclass. Read more

Dutch women defend European Games title
The Netherlands won three gold medals at the first European Games edition in 2015 in Baku. Marhinde Verkerk was the winner U78kg. The Dutch have always had a strong line-up in this class and since that period Guusje Steenhuis took over the lead in this division. The former World number one faced some injuries but seems back in time for a good campaign in the road to Tokyo with stepping stones in Minsk, Tokyo, Prague in 2020. Read more

170 women in The Hague for Grand Prix gold
The draw at the Grand Prix of The Hague delivered some fine first round matches. With two world champions in the field and 412 participants coming from 62 nations the second edition of the Grand Prix in Holland almost doubled its participants field compared to last year. 242 Men and 170 Women will battle for the medals and valuable points for the qualification for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Shori Hamada gives herself the best birthday gift ever
On her 28th birthday Shori Hamada (JPN) became the new world champion for women U78kg in Baku. Again Japan for gold and a great disappointment for the Dutch Guusje Steenhuis and the Netherlands that lost eight World Championships finals in a row since the last successful title for Verkerk in 2009 in Rotterdam. After a long final of nine minutes Shori Hamada won the world title after three penalties for Guusje Steenhuis. Read more

Shocker results U78kg and two Dutch in the semi finals
Two shocker results in the women’s category U78kg at the 2018 World Championships in Baku. French multiple world and Olympic medallist Audrey Tcheumeo is out of the tournament. She lost to Aleksandra Babintseva (RUS). Another shock is Brazilian World Champion Mayra Aguiar who showed to be vulnerable lately but wasn’t expected to lose to Chinese Ma Zhenzhao, the revelation of today’s prelims. Read more
