Olympic silver medallist Varlam Liparteliani was devastated after his loss on the final against Mashu Baker, he could only be sad. Liparteliani has now won all possible silver medals, four at the European Championships, the 2013 World Championships final also in Rio and the Olympic final in Rio.

The Georgian judoka is triple European Champion in 2012, 2014 and 2016 and won 8 consecutive European medals. He won World Championships medals in 2013 and won bronze in 2014 and 2015. He also World and European titles with the Georgian team, all U90kg. Now it’s time to step up one weight category U100kg. The 1.87m tall Liparteliani creates another interesting question on the Georgian line-up. Very liklely Beka Gviniashvili will now go back, it was already confirmed by his coach. Gviniashvili (1.75m) who finished seventh at the Olympic Games weighted 95.9kg at the Games could fihgt again U90kg. Also it’s uncertain if Avtandili Tchrikishvili will remain in the U81kg class.

Lots of questions triggered by the step up of the 27-year old Liparteliani, because that is for sure his decision.
