Belgian judoka Matthias Casse is runner-up of the World Championships in 2019 in Tokyo. He became Junior World Champion in Zagreb in 2017. He won the European Open in Katowice in 2017. Casse won Belgian titles in all age categories. He won the Junior European Cups in Kaunas and Lignano. He won bronze at the Grand Prix The Hague in 2017 and silver in Zagreb in 2018 and took bronze at the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf, Baku and Montreal in 2019. Casse captured European Games gold in Minsk.

An exciting tournament U81kg at the World Championships with Sagi Muki as the new World Champion. In the final he defeated belgian prodigy Matthias Casse another time. Muki and Casse know each-other inside out but again Muki was able to take this match and captured the first world title for his country. A super exciting final block is expected at the fourth day of the World Championships where World champion and world number one Saeid Mollaei of Iran powered into the last four with four wins from four contests including a round four success over Olympic champion Khasan Khalmurzaev (RUS). There were some doubts if Mollaei could fight. He can always fight anyone, but is he allowed to, that is still the big question as in the semi final he will face Belgian prodigy Matthias Casse. What an tremendous day for Belgian Matthias Casse. He captured the European Games title in Minsk and was among the favourites. The absence of his nemesis Sagi Muki might have helped him in the end, but he was the best of this top field and defeated opponents this he usually experiences difficulties fighting them including 2017 World Champion Alexander Wieczerzak (GER). Without Israelian star Sagi Muki the European Championships title U81kg is open for anyone. Muki is the biggest prospect for World gold in Tokyo for Israel. In their successful team Muki continues to grow towards the absolute highest level U81kg. However the Israelians chose not go to the European Games and have selected the Grand Prix in Budapest which is the first European event for 100% qualification points.
