Slovenia is of course well known for its success in the women’s divisions for the last five years with two Olympic Champions in London and Rio and bronze for Ana velensek. Silver at the recent World Championships for Tina Trstenjak and of course surprise Mihael Zgank U90kg gave Slovenian judo another boost. Perhaps in the junior division less dominant as before, but still medal chances for some of their youngsters. Read more

German women set junior records at European Cup in Prague

The German junior women proved their strength at the European Cup in Prague. Four category titles were captured by the German women and Falk Petersilka added one in the men’s division to make it five. Azerbaijan showcased strong judo among the men obviously beginning with gold in the lightweights U55kg by Rashkan Bakhishaliyev. Two all Azeri finals in U55 and U60 where Ahmad Yusufov won the title. Croatian Brigita Matic is the second in the family to capture the World Junior title. In Abu Dhabi she stepped into the light of her sister Barbara with another great milestone in her career. Brigita Matic won the Youth Olympics in 2014. She won World Cadet and Junior bronze as well as with the Croatian team, in 2013 and gold in 2015. Matic won the European Cadet title in 2012 and EYOF in 2011 and silver in 2013. European Junior bronze in 2012 and 2015. Read more

Russian junior men capture 4 gold in Berlin!

Aren’t the Russian Juniors just amazing? At the European Cup for Juniors in Berlin, the men’s team won three consecutive titles: U90kg, U100kg and +100kg. Russia ended with four medals and finished first in the medal table of the tournament, the second best performance ever. Read more

Russian men destroy juniors, Germans show girl-power

Russia was the big winner of the European Cup in Leibnitz taking all eight gold medals in the men’s category. The gap with the women is big, zero titles, but six medals. The level of the Russian juniors is huge and to the eight gold also six other medals were captured. The categories U55, U60 and U81 saw an all Russian final. Read more
