Vice World Champion Beslan Mudranov blasted away

Slightly the contours of today’s men’s U60kg division unveil while the World Championships have started the engines on Monday. The first major surprise is Vice World Champion and European Games winner Beslan Mudranov who lost his match against the strong Uzbek Diyorbek Urozboev. It was the most appealing match after Sunday’s draw that came out of the first rounds.

The blow however for Uzbekistan is that their highest seeded player Sharafuddin Lutfillaev lost his second match against Choi In-Hyuk of Korea. Lutfillaev was the highest seed and #6 in the world U60kg. Choi won bronze at the World Championships for Juniors in 2013 and it’s the first sign that the team of Korea will have a strong World Championships here in Astana.

Amiran Papinashvili, last year's bronze flew out of the tournament as he lost to Grand Slam Baku winner Rustam Ibrayev of Kazachstan, who also have Yeldos Smetov today as local favourite.

Seeded French Vincent Limare lost to Felipe Kitadai of Brazil, the fourth seeded player who doesn't make it to the last 8, who was the last European. Seven Asians and one Brazilian in the quarter finals.

 

In the women’s category Charline van Snick of Belgium defeated Olympic Champion Sarah Menezes who's now out of the tournament. Now 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Van Snick will face Paula Pareto who won OIlympic bronze in 2008. Ami Kondo defeated Irina Dolgova of Russia in a tight match in the repechage. 

Taciana Lima, the number four seed was kicked out by youngster Dilara Lokmanhekim of Turkey, who then lost to Nathalia Brigida of Brazil in the golden score. It was the second Turkish who lost too quickly. The Turkish team lost Ebru Sahin though against Buchard. Spanish Julia Figueroa defeated World bronze medallist Amandine Buchard in her second match, another blow in the tournament. However she lost her bout against Korean Jeong who reached the quarter final. 

Haruna Asami defeated 2013 World Champion Munkbat Urantsetseg and the second Japanese reached the quarter final as World Champion Ami Kondo defeated Edna Carrillo (MEX).
