Japan unveils selection for World Championships Abu Dhabi
Following the Japanese championships, a tradition in Japanese judo, the selection committee announced the team for the upcoming world championships in Abu Dhabi. This year, the committee meeting in Tokyo revealed fourteen names, bypassing the Empress's Cup and the Zen Nihon later in the month.
Some selections were unexpected, even for national champions. Notably, Joshiro Maruyama, in the -66kg category, is taking an extended break to prepare for the next Olympics. However, Ryuju Nagayama's inclusion in the -60kg category is noteworthy, being the first Olympic incumbent to compete in world championships held in the same year as the Olympics.
The selection stands out for its youthful composition, with many judokas still juniors or young seniors, such as Mao Arai and Taiki Nakamura.
