European Champion Alina Dumitru new star in Romanian Judo team

‘Piti’ (little one) as the Romanians call their new European Champion Alina DUMITRU is the big trump of four judokas competing in Athens. DUMITRU (21) won in May on home soil the seniors title U48 kgs after being world junior champion in 2000 already at the age of 18 years.

Little Alina is Romania’s new generation as successor of 2000 European Champion Laura Moise and already being dominant in Europe this year.

Although Dumitru  will have to compete with experienced Frédérique Jossinet (FRA) she has never beaten. Outside Europe she will have to deal with Chinese Gao Feng and Ryoko Tani (JPN).

Dumitru fought the six times Tani at the worlds in Osaka and lost, but doesn’t think Tani is unbeatable. ‘Technically she the best, but not the strongest’ the young European Champion said.

“It was a advantage to fight in Bucharest on home soil and the support helped me winning the European title, but I’m a rookie and will be disappointed not winning a medal.
