Marko Spittka back in Germany as coach

Marko Spittka has become Olympic coach in the region of Munich since November 1st. With the former top Judoka, the German Judo Association (DJB) was able to win an absolute top trainer in the vacant position.

At the federal base in Munich, Marko Spittka will manage the daily training operations of the male judoka and prepare the squad athletes as best as possible for the comparison with the international competition.

Sports director Dr. Ruben Goebel: “We are extremely pleased to be able to fill this newly created position with Marko. We are convinced that it will provide a decisive impetus for our athletes for the Olympic Games in 2021, but rather for the Olympic Games in 2024 ”.

Born in Dresden, the top judoka was among the absolute best in the world in the 1990s and was among other things European champion, vice world champion and Olympic third party. He completed his diploma as a trainer between 2001-2003 in Cologne. After his first stint as a regional coach in Bavaria, he was successful as a national coach in Austria for 12 years - since 2015 as head national coach.

“The international experience and the successes achieved at top sporting events were the decisive factors in choosing Marko Spittka when the number of applicants was high. In addition, he convinced with his motivation, his commitment and his knowledge of the national structures ”, says DJB sports director Dr. Ruben Goebel.

Marko Spittka is facing a new challenge, as he has mainly worked as a national trainer in the past. Now he has to switch over to the daily training routine quickly. Here he will find a strong team that will fully support him, with the federal base manager at the top.

Marko Spittka takes on this responsible task from Ralf Matusche, who has not only promoted the federal base in Munich for 27 years in terms of sport. Ralf Matusche has been the federal base manager in Munich since 2019.
