Judo in Romania had its biggest success in 2008 at the Olympic Games in Beijing. Alina Dumitru won the Olympic Judo title. Alina Dumitru was also in the Olympic final in 2012. Of 6 Olympic judo medals for Romania Corina Caprioriu was in the final in 2012 and Simona Richter won bronze in 2000. Romanian women’s judo is strong and Florin Bercean is the succescoach in judo.Under Florin Bercean there are many World Championships medals for Andreea Chitu (3), Alina Dumitru (3) and Corina Caprioiu (2). Alina Dumitru won 8 European titles, The European Open in Bucharest is the biggest judo event in Romania.
