In 2017 Mary Dee Vargas Ley won bronze at the Pan American Open in Buenos Aires. The former Junior Pan American Championships bronze medallist campaigned at the World Championships for the first time last year. She won the Pan American Open in Cordoba in 2019 and took silver in Lima. She took gold at the Pan American Championships in Guadalajara in 2021 and silver in 2022 in Lima. Mary Dee Vargas became the most successful Chilean woman in World Judo Tour history. She triumphed at the Pan American Open in Santiago in 2023. She took silver at the Pan American Open in Guayaquil in July 2023.
