Eleven World Ranking leaders in the starting grid for Tokyo Grand Slam

The Grand Slam in Tokyo will be looking forward to a clash between Olympic Champion Shohei Ono and World Champion Soichi Hashimoto in their category U73kg. Both stylists will likely only meet in the ideal final. The Grand Slam will host 61 nations including 417 athletes. Only the editions in 2014 and 2015 had more judoka. World Champion Aaron Wolf replaced for Grand Slam Tokyo

A Strong Japanese team is expected to shine at the Grand Slam in Tokyo this weekend. Nonetheless in the latest moment to World Champions fell off the roster as current U100kg World Champion Aaron Wolf was replaced by Daiki Nishiyama in his new category. 2015 World Champion Ryunosuke Haga will be replaced by Yusuke Kumashiro, both U100kg. Hisayoshi Harasawa won’t compete +100kg as is replaced by Daiki Kamikawa. Read more

The IJF World Judo Tour will now head to Asia for the fifth and final Grand Slam of the year in Tokyo next month. Olympic champion and two-time world champion Ono Shohei (JPN), who is widely regarded as being the best pound-for-pound judoka in the world, makes his return at the Tokyo Grand Slam and will appear in his new gold backpatch for the first time.
