British ladies score in Kaunas European Cup

Lot of known names at the European Cup for Juniors in Kaunas. U63kg former European Cadet Champion Katie Yeats-Brown which finished on the third place, silver from the cadet Championships in 2010 Ana Kokeza (CRO) but didn't succeed to go through first round against Kiskel of Lithuania. EYOF bronze medallist Buga Kovac (CRO), had much more success in Kaunas than her teammate Kokeza and finished on the third place next to Yeats Brown. Dzhigaros of Russia which was second at the World Cadet Championships, also finished here in Kaunas on the second place. The U63kg was won by the former U52kg competitor and silver medallist from the European Cadet Championships Lucy Renshall of Great Britain.

In Lithuania participated 22 different countries, first time ever that in Kaunas came this record number of federations.

The strongest delegation was Russian - they won total 21 medals: 6 gold, 7 Silver and 8 Bronze.

Especially wonderful results reached by the Russian women like a years ago in European cup Kaunas 2013. Russian girls took 18 medals. They won medals in all categories except in the category under 70kg. The Russian athletes were in final fights in categories U44kg, U48kg, U52kg, U78kg.

Athletes from Great Britain team came with strong selection which won 9 medals. Samuel Hall took gold, like a year ago in Kaunas.

The Ukranian men succeed to win three gold medals of the five athletes in total.

In final fight category under 73kg athlete from Latvia Mihails Steinbuks did impressive uchi mata ( the most impressive throw in finals fights) and won gold medal which was also the only medal for the team of Latvia.

Lithuanian athletes won at this cup 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.

Kaunas had the strongest tournament so far in their history.

Kim Jin A strikes gold for DPR Korea

North Korean Kim Jin A won her second IJF title of the season with an impressive win over world number 16 Sarah Leonie Cysique (FRA). KIM won four of her five contests by ippon to maintain a 100% winning record on the tour this year in addition to her continental championships win in April. The 23-year-old beat Cysique in the final by a waza-ari score and could be a major contender at the upcoming World Judo Masters in December. Read more

Russians strong at European Cup in Belgrade

The team of Russia impressed at the first day of the European Cup in Serbia. With four gold medals, two for men, two for women the neo seniors seemed to be ready for the European U23 Championships in Tel Aviv. The first gold medal was for the host nation and the tiny Andrea Stojanovic set a record for the youngest winner of the tournament. Born in 2000 Stojanovic won a trophy bigger than her chest, but not bigger than her heart. Read more


Karolina Talach steals the show U63kg in Zagreb

Polish judoka Karolina Talach had the measure of Tyumen Grand Slam bronze medallist Diana Dzhigaros of Russia in the first final on day two in Zagreb. This time a big individual title for Talach who helped the Polish team to become European Team Champion. Read more

Aimi Nouchi gives Japanese women 100% score in Tyumen

Nouchi Aimi of Japan came into the competition as an unknown but leaves Tyumen with one Grand Slam gold medal after beating Lisbon European Open bronze medallist Daria Davydova of Russia. Nouchi followed up Munkhzaya Tsedevsuren (MGL) as winner and in 2014 Kana Abe won the first edition in Tyumen. Read more

Nami Nabekura exchanges last year's silver to gold

Another Japanese World Champion in the category U63kg. After Miho Minei last year who beat Japanese Nabekura Nami in Fort Lauderdale, now it was Nabekura to shine in Abu Dhabi. The Japanese efforts and talent paid out and Nabekura defeated her European opponents. She took the fifth World title for Japan this edition. Read more
