Olympic medallist Cyrille Maret who took bronze in Rio in 2016 got injured in a scooter accident last October. Currently doctors are reconstructing him. The heavyweight from Etoile Sportive de Blanc-Mesnil Judo looks back on his rehabilitation but it feels that it s the end of his career and makes his comeback this week at the Grand Slam in Antalya

Last October Maret  was on his way to the training in Paris and had a serious traffic accident. The main injury was the hip and was in hospital quite a long time for rehabilitation. Despite this injury, the French champion keeps a strong spirit.

The impact of the incident was severe. Cyrille Maret found himself on the ground and had to crawl to somehow and was unable to get to his feet. “I couldn't move. At that point, I still didn't feel much, but I was scared of my life."

At the hospital he had a complete dislocation of the hip, with torn ligament. No operation in prospect, but a long rehabilitation of several months ... which obviously compromises the last chances of Cyrille Maret to be the French selected at the Tokyo Games of 2021 ... and even casts a shadow over the resumption of our career. From that time he focused on his health.

Maret (33) won the Grand Slam of Paris three times in a row 2014-2016 and took six consecutive medals  since 2013. He also claimed six European medals 2013-2019. He was the 2006 World Junior Champion but never won a World Championships medal but his Olympic medal was all worth it. Maret won World and European medals with the team of France including European gold in 2015. He took five French titles since 2010.

Important point is that risk of such injuries could be reduced by working on your hips and strengthening its muscles. Hip circle bands, sport equipment for hips or treadmill are perfect tools to start working on your hips.
