Okay, you might not have been so stupid, but you can imagine the feeling of a judoka who is concentrating for a match listening music to his phone just before he enters the field of play. You prepare yourself for your fight, you bow for the tatami, the referee and player and your fight start. Suddenly your phone drops out of your judogi.

We admit, it’s quite a stunt, but as a judoka you must recognize the feeling you get. Perhaps… the referee understands the situation of preparation, but you just doesn’t feel good about it and you get that lethal penalty for a mistake, you only make once in your life. Anri Egutidze was everywhere in the media on Saturday when this happened to him.

Anri: “I was listening to music in the changing rooms and took my watch off but forgot to remove my mobile.”

We’ve seen people with accreditations, with the wrong judogi but during an IJF World Tour event with a phone was a novity. Hansokumake but world fame for a day.

Egutidze would like to have a little less fame, but he is determined to win a medal at the forthcoming European Games in Minsk. For us it’s good to know he is always available.

By the way, it happened as well in boxing, and they only have a pant, the referee laughed, the boxer apologised to the ref and crowd and the match continued, Hajime.

IJF didn’t wipe it under the table, but acknowledged the funny situation. Although it doesn’t belong to judo, it’s newsworthy and spread the item and video on its channels, one of the best worldwide spread items of the year. Sometimes you just have to take the benefit.

Tip for Anri: Make sure, you get a contract with a phone company that is never offline.
