Countdown for inaugural Judo Grand Prix Tel Aviv

The IJF World Judo Tour 2019 will launch in just over a week with a brand new event. The new season will open in Israel with the inaugural Tel Aviv Grand Prix from Thursday 24 to Saturday 26 January.

Over 400 judoka from 53 countries will compete at the Shlomo Arena which is expected to be sold out on all three days.

Home star and European champion Sagi Muki will be one of the best supported judoka in Israel’s capital and will be an early favourite for gold.

Among the top athletes will be Tal Flicker, Baruch Shmailov U66kg, Peter Paltchik fighting for gold U100kg and back in the scene Or Sasson +100kg.

In the women’s division strong contenders with Rishony and Minsker U48kg, Primo and Temelkova U52kg. Nelson Levy U57kg and many more talents from the country where judo is the number one individual sport.

Tel Aviv kicks off the World Tour in ultimate judo year

As soon as 2019 came to end, we all realised that 2020 is the main year in the Olympic cycle and catches all attention of world wide judo fans. Next week, IJF Tour will start its Olympic year in Tel Aviv with the Grand Prix in Israel which will host a huge number of top judokas. Sagi Muki concludes successful 2019 as top earner

The IJF will continue its end-of-year tradition of awarding a prize money bonus to all 14 world number ones on the final IJF World Ranking List for 2019. The bonus, which was first introduced in 2016, will see the world number one’s in each of the 14 weight categories scoop a bonus of $10,000 per judoka. Read more

Teddy Riner will be attending the Grand Prix in Tel Aviv, the first World Tour event of 2020. Matthias Casse closes best year ever with gold

World silver medallist Matthias Casse of Belgium won World Judo Masters gold after an impressive day in Qingdao. The 22-year-old became his country’s first Masters winner after a rematch of the World Championships final was not to be today with world champion Sagi Muki (ISR) picking up a rib injury during his semi-final.
