World champion Asahina, 22, and European champion Dicko, 19, are two new forces in heavyweight judo and are already contenders for Olympic glory in 2020. It's a battle to look out for.

Five-time Grand Slam winner Asahina, who added the world heavyweight title last year to her 2017 Openweight world crown, has already been installed as the favourite for Tokyo 2020 which would be her Olympic debut.

Dicko is in a similar position and both talents will be keen to show their worth in 2019 and to take control of the weight category as the world awaits their first tussle. With Sone Akira developing tremendously the Olympic Qualification isn’t over in Japan. Asahina won major events, but internally nothing’s been decided.

Sarah Asahina

Japanese heavyweight Sarah Asahina became World Champion in 2018 in Baku and silver medallist in 2017 in Budapest. She won the Grand Slams in Paris and Ekaterinburg in 2017. She won the Grand Slam in Tokyo in 2016 and 2017 and Grand Slam in Düsseldorf in 2018. Asahina won the World Junior Championships U21 in 2014 in Miami. Asahina is one of the youngest ever winners of a senior World Cup event at the age of 16 in Sofia-2013.

Romane Dicko

French judoka Romane Dicko became European senior champion in 2018 in Tel Aviv. She took gold at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi in 2018. She became European Junior champion in 2017 in Maribor. Dicko was French heavyweight champion in 2016.
