Former World Judo Masters winner DORJSUREN Sumiya (MGL) topped the -57kg medal podium by seeing off the challenge of former world bronze medallist Vlora BEDETI (SLO). DORJSUREN registered a yuko from a drop seoi-nage and was too wily in the final to ensure a memorable day for the vast Mongolian team.

In the first semi-final world number four Miryam ROPER (GER) was submitted by DORJSUREN who applied sufficient pressure to force the German standout to tap out to a sankaku-jime. In the second semi-final BEDETI (SLO) beat Tunisia African Open bronze medallist Viola WAECHTER (GER) to book her place in the final on shido penalties with one against the German fighter and three against the Slovenian athlete.

Both bronze medal contests pitted Germany against Romania and the former came out on top on both occasions.

The first bronze medal was won by world number 74 WAECHTER who bested Olympic silver medallist Corina CAPRIORIU (ROU) by wazari-awasette-ippon. The German scored her second waza-ari from a powerful ko-uchi-gari. The second bronze medal was won by Qingdao Grand Prix winner ROPER who showed her resolve to bounce back from defeat and conquer Zagreb Grand Prix bronze medallist Loredana OHAI (ROU). ROPER trailed to a yuko but responded with sheer quality as she produced a sublime ouchi-gari for ippon.
