The World Championships have begun. With some major clashes in the category U48kg the tournament have already seen a few top athletes who’s tournament is over. Kosovo’s medal hope Distria Krasniqi had a very unlucky draw immediately against Daria Bilodid (UKR) in her second match. The last 8 don't surprise though.

Krasniqi won her first but Bilodid struck one minute for regular time with a wazari and Krasniqi couldn’t make an equalizer.

Another major clash was between Irina Dolgova of Russia whos first opponent was Olympic Champion Paula Pareto of Argentina. It was the tiny Pareto who once more showed her experience and defeated the Russian hope lightweight. Pareto (32) who keeps on surprising and will now face Bilodid (17), an age difference of 15 years

Another Ukrainian outsider for a medal was Maryna Cherniak. She lost in her first bout against Shira Rishony of Israel. Rishony lost to reigning World Champion Funa Tonaki in the second round. Tonaki won the pool where she met Julia Figueroa of Spain in the quarter. Figueroa defeated Milica Nikolic (SRB).

Melanie Clement (FRA) lost to Marusa Stangar (SLO) who had a bye in her first round. World Junior Champion Amber Gersjes (NED) is out due to her loss after a penalty in her match against Aisha Gurbanli (AZE). Stangar became the winner of that pool but she lost to Pareto.

Catarina Costa (POR) is on steam as she threw out Monica Ungureanu (ROM) and Anne-Sophie Jura (BEL). She reached the last 8 but lost to Munkhbat.

The semi finals consists of:

Munkhbat MGL vs Tonaki JPN

Pareto ARG vs Bilodid UKR

Repechage

Costa POR vs Figueroa ESP

Stangar SLO vs Galbadrakh KAZ
