The Dutch Judo Association have added Michael Bazynski to its coaching staff. The former 58-year old German women's headcoach was active for eight years in Germany and now moved to Arnhem, where the Dutch national training centre is based since last year.

Under Bazynski's guidance Germany won two Olympic medals in 2012 and 2016 and the women captured almost 30 medals at World and European Championships. In the IJF World Tour he won over 30 gold medals with the German women. Before his period as headcoach Bazynski was junior and cadet coach since 2001.
Maarten Arens, headcoach of the NTC, is happy with Bazynski. “Michael proved over years he can manage to deliver top performances with women. With his experience he will be a valuable addition to the team.”

As an athlete he won European silver in 1985 and he captured three national titles U86kg in the eighties.

Laura Vargas Koch with whom Bazynski won Olympic bronze reacted with gratitude. Vargas Koch: "I am sad that the time with Baze is all over now, pissed off that my competitors get such a great coach, and especially grateful for the time we had together! We had so many great moments together. Of course, at the Rio Olympics, the World Championships in Rio, at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi and Paris, at the European championship in Budapest, Montpellier and Baku... winning together is of course always beautiful and unforgettable. But you've also accompanied me when things didn't go so well when I was injured or not believed in me."
