JSV Speyer captures the ECC Golden League

At the Golden League in Grozny the women of JSV Speyer have won the gold medal. In the final the German team defeated Vienna Samurai by 4-1. In the semi final Speyer defeated RSC Champigny by 3-2 as Jasmin Kuelbs was on fire and defeated Olympic Champion Audrey Tcheumeo.
In the final Odette Giuffrida (-52 kg), Nadja Bazynski (-63 kg), Szaundra Diedrich (-70 kg) and Jasmin Külbs (+70 kg) signed for the victories, for Samurai, another German, Miryam Roper, won her bout.
After a defeat in the first round, the women of Galatasaray captured bronze after a victory against French team JC Cortaillod. The French team of RSC Champigny that defeated Galatasaray took the second bronze in their bronze match against Shabolovka.
JSV Speyer won the European Club Championships two years ago in the Netherlands and promoted to the golden league where last year bronze was taken, the first step to today's gold medal in Grozny.

Heavyweight great Idalys Ortiz of Cuba defeated Kodokan Cup winner Akiba Maya (JPN) to win the women’s +78kg title in Hohhot. World number one Ortiz, who is bidding for her fourth consecutive Olympic medal at Tokyo 2020 next year, had too much experience for Grand Prix debutant Akiba who was disqualified after being penalised three times for passivity. On the first day of the German Championships in the SCHARRena in Stuttgart, the favorites were able to prevail. Luise Malzahn won her fifth title in an interesting final against European U23 Champion Anna Maria Wagner in their class U78kg. It was the fifth title for Malzahn. Read more
Japanese champion Asahina Sarah continued her undefeated streak with a comfortable win in Russia. She had also won the Paris Grand Slam in February. Tokai University member Asahina, 20, has now won Grand Slams in Tokyo, Paris and Ekaterinburg in succession and won the All Japan Open weight Championships in April. Read more
The German Judo federation announced the team for the Olympic Games in Rio. National coaches Detlef Ultsch and Michael Bazynski gave arguments for their choices in a press conference and all athletes were nominated to the German National Olympic Committee. Read more
