Ivan Felipe Silva Morales from Cuba won silver at the World Championships in Baku in 2018. He claimed bronze at the 2015 World Junior Championships in Abu Dhabi. He was in finallist of the PanAm Games in Toronto vs Travis Stevens. He won bronze at the Youth Olympic Games in 2014. In 2016 he took gold at the Grand Prix in Almaty. He won bronze at the GP in Budapest in 2018. He took gold at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi and silver in Brasilia in 2019. Ivan won the Pan American title in 2019 in Lima.

At the Grand Slam of Brasilia former world champion Nikoloz Sherazadishvili of Spain defeated former world silver medallist Ivan Felipe Silva Morales of Cuba in a rematch of the 2018 Worlds final. The Spaniard extended his winning record over the Cuban to 3-1 with a trademark uchi-mata which was worth a waza-ari score which separated the rivals after four minutes of compelling action. World number one Nikoloz Sherazadishvili of Spain captured his second Grand Prix gold medal with a nail-biting win over Osaka Grand Slam winner Mukai Shoichiro (JPN) in the U90kg final. Sherazadishvili, who previously topped a Grand Prix podium in Cancun in 2017, prepared for his upcoming title defence in Tokyo by beating one of his strongest challengers.
