Loriana Kuka of Kosovo became the U23 European Champion in 2018 in Gyor. She won bronze at the World Championships in 2019 in Tokyo. Loriana won the Grand Prix Antalya in 2018. Kuka won the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2018. She was in five Grand Prix finals and won three in Antalya, Tashlent and Tbilisi. She captured bronze at the European Games in Mins. She is the niece of coach Driton Kuka.

Malonga seals France’s third gold medal in as many days

Madeleine Malonga is the new World Champion U78kg. In the Budokan in Tokyo the French woman defeated defending world champion Hamada Shori of Japan who conceded her world crown to Malonga. The French team now captured three gold medal. Malonga followed the success of her teammates Clarisse Agbegnenou (U63kg) and Marie Eve Gahie (U70kg) who won gold on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Read more

You just cannot believe it, Guusje Steenhuis cannot believe it but Guusje Steenhuis lost her third European Championships final away. Slovenian Klara Apotekar was the one who snatched this European Games title. Apotekar was the winner of a pool with Natalie Powell and Bernadette Graf and both were more favourite on paper, but Apotekar steadily grew to this level for a long period and the differences are small. Dutch women defend European Games title

The Netherlands won three gold medals at the first European Games edition in 2015 in Baku. Marhinde Verkerk was the winner U78kg. The Dutch have always had a strong line-up in this class and since that period Guusje Steenhuis took over the lead in this division. The former World number one faced some injuries but seems back in time for a good campaign in the road to Tokyo with stepping stones in Minsk, Tokyo, Prague in 2020. Read more

Loriana Kuka steers Kosovo to a 100% winning record

Kosovo’s Loriana Kuka gave her country their second gold medal from their two-strong team in Tbilisi. Kuka, who only made her Grand Prix debut a year ago, followed in the footsteps of her teammate Nora Gjakova (KOS) who won U57kg gold on day one. The world number 16 scored twice against former world bronze medallist Kaliema Antomarchi (CUB) who will have to fight again in order to win her first IJF title. Read more

Anna-Maria Wagner this time takes the gold

Germany’s Anna Maria Wagner edged out Loriana Kuka of Kosovo to win the U78kg gold medal and recorded her first IJF World Judo Tour win. Düsseldorf Grand Slam silver medallist Wagner secured her first IJF gold after taking silver at her home Grand Slam last month. A single waza-ari score was the difference as the uchi-mata of the German judoka once again proved to be effective for the world number 13. Read more
