Montenegro charges new energy in Sarajevo
The surprising winner of the European Cup in Sarajevo was the team of Montenegro. With three gold medals the re-installed member of the Judo Family was the most impressive nation in Bosnia Herzegovina. On Saturday Jovana Pekovic was on fire taking a gold medal U78kg. In the final Pekovic defeated British Emma Reid in a small field of six women. Read more

Georgian men and women shine at Junior European Championships
Georgia is traditional strong at the last day of the Junior European Championships. With their power in the categories U100kg and +100kg the Georgians celebrated two European champions on the third day in Sofia. Read more

France winning nation at European Cup in Sarajevo
France was the best nation at the European Cup in Sarajevo. The French captured three gold medals and nine medals in total. On Saturday the heavier categories were fighting, normally the lightweights start at most events. Aurelien Diesse was a strong winner in the category U90kg witnessed by Serbian World Champion Nemanja Majdov who lives in (East) Sarajevo. Read more

Michaela Polleres defeats Hilde Jager for gold in Warsaw
Number one seed Michaela Polleres captured her first European Open victory in her career. In Warsaw the Austrian judoka won her category U70kg after she bested Dutch Hilde Jager. In the second minute of the match Polleres took the lead after she took over Jager but a few seconds later she turned Jager into a second wazari for the victory. Polleres who won silver at the European U23 Championships where she lost to Jager in the final. Read more

Maribor proud host of Junior European Championships
Slovenia is of course well known for its success in the women’s divisions for the last five years with two Olympic Champions in London and Rio and bronze for Ana velensek. Silver at the recent World Championships for Tina Trstenjak and of course surprise Mihael Zgank U90kg gave Slovenian judo another boost. Perhaps in the junior division less dominant as before, but still medal chances for some of their youngsters. Read more
