Tohar Butbul of Israel won bronze at the European Open in Sofia in 2016. In 2014 he won bronze at the European Junior Championships. Butbul is former Israelian champion U73kg. He won bronze at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2017. He took a silver medal at the Grand Prix in Cancun in 2017. He took a bronze medal at the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf in 2018 and bronze at the GP Zagreb. He captured bronze at the Grand Prix in Tel Aviv in 2019, claimed silver at the Grand Slam in Baku and gold at GP Zagreb!

Israelian Tohar Butbul earned his first IJF World Judo Tour gold medal by beating Osaka Grand Slam silver medallist Arthur Margelidon (CAN) in the U73kg final of the Grand Prix in Zagreb. The world number 11 and Baku Grand Slam silver medallist threw with a seoi-otoshi with 35 seconds left to grace the highest spot on the IJF podium for the first time to strengthen his bid for success at the World Championships in four weeks-time. Hidayat Heydarov of Azerbaijan won his home Grand Slam for the first time as he beat Tel Aviv Grand Prix bronze medallist Tohar Butbul (ISR) in a nervy U73kg final.
