Megumi Tsugane Horikawa was a talented at young age, she won the Grand Slam in Tokyo in 2012 aged 17. In 2013 she fought the World Junior Championships final. She won World Junior gold with the Japanese team in 2014 and a few World Cups. She grabbed the Universiade title in 2015. She took a silver medal at the Grand Prix in Zagreb in 2017. She won bronze at the Grand Slam in Tokyo in 2017. In 2018 she took a silver medal at the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf. She captured the victory at the Kodokan Cup Chiba in 2020 in the category U63kg. She captured a bronze medal at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2021
