Italian super lady Odette Giuffrida has unlimited potential on the world stage and the confident Italian won her second competition in a row at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi. In the final in Georgia she defeated Tashkent Grand Prix bronze medallist Gili Cohen of Israel. Giuffrida, 21, who won the Rome European Open in February and was World Judo Masters bronze medallist in 2015, was penalised for passivity before Cohen was penalised for a false attack and neither judoka could register a score after four minutes. At the second day Japan added two world titles, making four, and Korea also doubled the figures with Kang Heon-Cheol who won the men’s U73kg category. Distria Krasniqi of Kosovo won world gold for Kosovo as she defeated former Cadet World Championships silver medallist Mariam Janashvili of feorgia in the U52kg final. Janashvili is one of a host of young Georgian women now breaking through as they develop their women’s programme towards one day matching their men’s results. The Georgian fighter was penalised with a shido for holding onto the one side for too long. Baku Grand Slam bronze medallist Krasniqi absorbed the best attacks of Janashvili and sealed the title by scoring ippon from a kosoto-gari. Read more
