Slovenian Anja Stangar captured a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Zagreb in 2017. She won the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Trabzon in 2011 U48kg and two Cadet European bronze medals. She won a bronze medal at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2017. She took bronze at the Grand Prix Tunis in 2018. She took bronze at the Grand Prix Tbilisi in 2018 and Grand Prix Antalya. Sister of Marusa Stangar. She captured gold at the European Open in Tallinn in 2019. She won the African Open in Yaounde.

Distria Krasniqi upstages British youngster for gold in Antalya

Distria Krasniqi of Kosovo won her fourth Grand Prix gold medal with a tenacious display in Antalya. World number five Krasniqi, 22, defeated 21-year-old Chelsie Giles (GBR) in the U52kg final. Giles comes from Coventry Judo Club, which also nurtured the talents of IJF Hall of Famer Neil Adams who is on commentary duty this weekend. Read more

Jessica Pereira gets closer to the top U52kg

With no surprise in the women's U52kg, the two favorites, the three-time Grand Prix Gold medalist, Distria Krasniqi (KOS), and the 2017 Pan-American Champion, Jessica Pereira (BRA), entered the final of the Grand Prix in Tunis. Much less active than Krasniqi, Pereira was penalized with a first shido half way to the end and again with a second one just before the last minute. Read more

Eleudis Valentim back at world level after Zagreb victory

Brazilian Eleudis Valentim booked her best career win since 2012 claiming the gold at the Grand Prix in Zagreb in her category U52kg. Being second top seeded athlete Hungarian Pupp Reka qualified for the final to be opposed to Eleudis Valentim, who was ranked 3rd after the draw. Read more

Stangar sisters both take gold at European Cup in Bratislava

The first international senior event after the World Championships was the European Cup in Bratislava, Slovakia. The event is a good preparation for the European U23 Championships in November in Montenegro. Also a few juniors captured the medals in Bratislava such as teens Marusa Stangar and Teresa Zenker.
