The European Cup in Malaga was a sort of comeback event for many judoka. We saw a few familiar faces in the circuit who haven’t been active for many reasons. Tamerlan Bashaev and Ilyaz Niyasov both saved the reputation of Russian judo. The Russian weren't that lucky this tournament and had only won a silver medal in the women's category. Where the Russian juniors where so dominant in the past, now only the heavyweight men's category captured two gold medals in one day, saved by the bell to have at least one new champion in the team like in the last four editions of the World Junior Championships. Showtime for Holland on day 2 of the European Cup in Wroclaw

The European Cup for Juniors in Wroclaw closed on a successful note for the Dutch team, with the first 4 national anthems ringing out for the Netherlands who collected 4 gold medals on the second day. It was not quite enough for the overall victory that was captured by Germany who had already won three gold medals on day one. Read more
