Barbara Timo was born in Brazil. She took the gold medal at the Grand Prix in Zagreb in 2017. She won the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2013 U70 which was one of her career highlights, among various international World Cup medals. Married to Marcelo Timo. In October she won bronze at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi in 2016. She took bronze at the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg in 2018. Since 2019 she starts the World Tour for Portugal. She won bronze at the Grand Slam of Paris in 2019.

Japan’s Yoko Ono beats France’s Pinot to gold

World bronze medallist Ono Yoko (JPN) won her third Grand Slam title at the expense of Osaka Grand Slam bronze medallist Margaux Pinot (FRA). A nervy contest was settled by penalties in golden score when the home judoka was penalised for the third and final time for leaving the area and the gold medal was gifted to world number 12 Ono. Maria Portela again strong in Russia and back as world number one

World number two Maria Portela of Brazil powered to victory in Russia to take over the world number one spot at U70kg for the first time in her career which is thriving of late. Portela, 30, won on the Grand Slam stage before in Moscow, Russia, in 2012 and is something of a Russia specialist having won the Masters in St. Petersburg in December. Read more

World Champion Gwak practises with Universiade gold in Taipei

Current World Champion Gwak Dong-Han of Korea did a successful practice for the World Championships next week in Budapest. With a gold medal at the Universiade Gwak was likely one of the last medal winners of all participants in Budapest. At the Universiade in Taipei he won his category U90kg in the final against Russian Stanislav Retinskii, a former Ukrainian judoka. Gwak led by a wazari and didn’t let Retinskii escape and took the gold. Read more


Marie Eve Gahie takes precious first Grand Slam gold
