Brazilian judoka and famous coach Luis Juniti Shinohara won gold at the Pan American Games as an athlete, as well as Panam Championships gold. He participated in the Los Angeles Olympic Games, coached by his father Massao. He finished seventh at Olympic Games and World Championships and took silver at University World Championships. Later be became coach of the Brazilian team since 2002. His father was a son of Japanese immigrants, raised in São Paulo region, Massao began practising judo in 1940.
