Aslan Lappinagov won the European U23 title in 2015 in Bratislava. He took bronze at the European Championships in 2017 and 2018. He was European Junior Champion in 2013 in Sarajevo. He won the Grand Slam in Tyumen in 2016 and took bronze in Zagreb. He took bronze at the Grand Slam in Tokyo in 2016. In 2017 he won the Grand Prix Düsseldorf and bronze in 2018 and silver in 2019. He took bronze in Hohhot in 2017 and Montreal 2019. Lappinagov took a silver medal at the IJF Masters in 2017 and 2018.

The last final of the day opposed the Russian Aslan Lappinagov and the Greek Alexios Ntanatsidis, in a fight of strong men. For 4 minutes, the attacks were launched from one side to the other, without rest, the two athletes closing the first part of the contest, without scoring, but also without receiving the slightest penalty. It took Lappinagov 44 seconds to finally open the score and win the gold medal on a spectacular uchi-mata. We love matches of such intensity, even when they last longer than four minutes. Read more

Russian sport heavily penalised with four year ban by WADA

Russia is on course to have its presence and participation in international sport severely curtailed for four years, after World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) leaders today endorsed the recommendations of the Agency’s Compliance Review Committee (CRC). But the sanctions stop short of a blanket ban on Russian athletes. WADA said the decision was unanimous. The latest ban leaves the door open for Russian athletes, who can prove they are not tainted by the scandal, to compete as neutral athletes. Read more

World Championships silver medallist Fujiwara Sotaro (JPN) clinched his third Grand Slam title from four Grand Slam outings as he edged past World Judo Masters silver medallist Aslan Lappinagov (RUS) in the U81kg final. The Japanese judoka outworked his Russian rival who was penalised on three occasions and was therefore disqualified to gift the runaway leaders of the medal table their gold seventh medal in Düsseldorf.
