IJF World Judo Tour rookie and Grand Prix debutant Betina Temelkova of Israel starred in the U52kg category with a eyecatching gold medal at the Grand Prix in Tashkent. Temelkova, 20, defeated three-time Grand Prix bronze medallist Agata Perenc (POL) to complete an incredible debut at the highest level with a masterful ko-soto, that had a hint of a modified kata-guruma about it, to earn ippon and Grand Prix gold at the first time of asking. Former world silver medallist Annabelle EURANIE (FRA) upstaged Olympic bronze medallist Priscilla GNETO (FRA) who never established herself in the -52kg final. EURANIE, 31, who sustained a black eye during a ne-waza exchange in the preliminaries, has a tall frame and her style starkly contrasts that of her 22-year-old opponent who was making her long-anticipated return from injury. GNETO chalked up four shido penalties to receive hansoku-make as she toiled to defeat with penalties coming her way for not taking a grip, going out of the area and two false attacks. Read more

The home crowd at the European Open in Warsaw cheered for a silver medal for Ewa Konieczny, it was silver with a golden edge. The gold, with golden edge though was Maryna Chernyak. The Ukraine started well today and took s second medal, bronze for Tatyana Levytska U52kg. Read more
