Bulgarian judoka Ivaylo Ivanov clinched the gold medal at the Grand Prix in Marrakech in 2019. Ivaylo won the Grand Slam on Abu Dhabi in 2015. In 2013 Ivanov became European U23 Champion in Samokov and silver in 2015. He took silver at the European Games in Minsk in 2019. Ivanov won the Grand Prix in Samsun. He finished 7th at the 2016 Olympic Games. He won the Grand Prix in The Hague in 2018. He captured silver at the 2014 Sambo World Championships in Narita in Japan and bronze in 2013.

Georgia’s Tato Grigalashvili ruled the U81kg category at the Grand prix in Budapest as he swept aside world number 353 Joao Macedo (BRA) in the final. Judo Sogipa member Macedo, 27, the older brother of Rafael Macedo, world number 15 in the weight category above, was overwhelmed by 19-year-old Baku Grand Slam bronze medallist Grigalashvili who opened the scoring with an o-uchi-gari for a waza-ari and added a second from a trademark hip throw. Without Israelian star Sagi Muki the European Championships title U81kg is open for anyone. Muki is the biggest prospect for World gold in Tokyo for Israel. In their successful team Muki continues to grow towards the absolute highest level U81kg. However the Israelians chose not go to the European Games and have selected the Grand Prix in Budapest which is the first European event for 100% qualification points.
