Russian judoka Sakhavat Gadzhiev won the World Junior Championships U20 in 2011 in Cape Town and the World U17 Championships in Budapest in 2009. He won his first World Cup medal in 2016, bronze at the European Open in Sofia. Silver at the Russian u23 Championships in 2015. He won gold at the European Cup in Belgrade in 2016. He won a silver medal at the European Open in Sofia.

The most spectacular final of the day was the one U73kg between Tohar Butbul of Israel and Hidayet Heydarov. Butbul could take the first gold medal of the tournament and third ever in history. In 2009 Alice Schlesinger won the title and Baruch Shmailov won in 2014. Against Hidayet Heydarov Butbul had to fight the European Junior Champion. Read more

The team of Russia impressed at the first day of the European Cup in Serbia. With four gold medals, two for men, two for women the neo seniors seemed to be ready for the European U23 Championships in Tel Aviv. The first gold medal was for the host nation and the tiny Andrea Stojanovic set a record for the youngest winner of the tournament. Born in 2000 Stojanovic won a trophy bigger than her chest, but not bigger than her heart. Read more
