Christianne Legentil of Mauritius was 7th at the Olympic Games in London U52kg where she surprised Majlinda Kelmendi. In 2016 she again finished 7th and defeated Gili Cohen. She won four African Championships medals from 2009-2015 and captured the gold at the African Open in Port Louis in 2014. Highlight was silver at the Grand Prix in Astana in 2014.

Taciana Lima Cesar captures fifth African title

The first title of the African Championships is traditionally reserved for Taciana Cesar of Guinee-Bissau. Cesar nee Lima, won her fifth consecutive African title. In the final in Madagascar she won by ippon against Olfa Saoudi, a repetition of last year’s final in Tunis. The 33-year old Cesar was Pan American Champion in 2001. Lightweights of Madagascar give host nation hope for African title

This week the African Championships kick off a series of Continental Championships. This edition is held in Madagascar. Last year the championship was held in Tunisia and the host nation led the medal table with five gold medals followed by Egypt with four titles. The star of Madagascar is Asaramanitra Ratiarison who won four back-to-back medals at African Championships since 2013 in her weight class U48kg. Read more

African Judo Championships help qualifying for Rio2016

Athletes from 31 nations will fight for the essential Qualification Points to participate at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The African Championships in Tunis are more important than ever and in the 14 weight classes each point can help the athletes to Rio. Last year at the African Championships the current host Tunisia was amazingly strong picking 50% of all 16 available medals including Open category. Eight titles for the current host nation rises the expectations. Tunisia and Algeria ended equal in the men’s division but in the women Tunisia won with 5 gold medals. Read more
