Khasan Khalmurzaev of Russia won the Olympic title in Rio in 2016 in the final vs Travis Stevens. In 2016 he became European Champion and won the GP of Havana. At the 2017 World Championships he won bronze. The twinbrother of Khusen won the Universiade title in 2015 and was European Junior Champion in 2011 and won 2 medals at European U23 Championships. Khasan was World U17 Champion in Budapest in 2009 U73kg. In 2017 he won the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg and IJF Masters in St. Petersburg.

One-time Grand Prix gold medallist Tato Grigalashvili of Georgia delivered a commanding victory for Georgia as the world number 18 toyed with the Olympic champion Khasan Khalmurzaev (RUS) on his way to -81kg gold. The 20-year-old was unfazed by the calibre of his opposition in the final as the gold backpatch of the Russian only served to highlight just how impressive Grigalashvili was despite being relatively raw at this level. Russian sport heavily penalised with four year ban by WADA

Russia is on course to have its presence and participation in international sport severely curtailed for four years, after World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) leaders today endorsed the recommendations of the Agency’s Compliance Review Committee (CRC). But the sanctions stop short of a blanket ban on Russian athletes. WADA said the decision was unanimous. The latest ban leaves the door open for Russian athletes, who can prove they are not tainted by the scandal, to compete as neutral athletes. Read more

Georgian rookie Luka Maisuradze provided Georgia with gold on day two as he beat fellow young gun and Tel Aviv Grand Prix bronze medallist Christian Parlati (ITA) in the U81kg final.
