Hungarian judoka Szabina Gercsak is 2015 World Junior and European Junior Champion in 2014 and 2015 and U23. She claimed the Youth Olympic Games in 2014. In 2013 she was World Cadet Champion U18 and European Cadet Champion. Gercsak successfully stepped up to U70 in 2015 and won bronze in Havana. She captured bronze at the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2017. She claimed a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2018. She captured a bronze medal at the European Cup in Bratislava in 2018.

France dominates first European Open in Luxembourg

The French team was just amazing at the European Open in Luzembourg. At the first edition of a Euro Open in the small country close to France, the French athletes took 10 out of the 14 gold medals. Germany, Hungary, Azerbaijan and neighbor Belgium captured gold as well. Besides that the French captured 29 medals. Only five countries with a gold medal doesn’t happen so often, the last time was at the Grand Slam in Osaka in 2018 where Japan dominated. In Luxembourg it was clearly France. Read more

The final for women U70kg at the Grand Prix in Tashkent opposed two former junior world medallists as the 2017 Junior World Champion, Giovanna Scoccimarro (GER) faced the 2017 Junior World medallist, Michaela Polleres (AUT). Mattias Casse is the only World Junior Champion who appears at the European U23 Championships in Podgorica. The Belgian world champ is one of the favourites in the category U81kg and the highest seed. As usual a tough category with Anri Egutidze (POR), Fagan Guluzada (AZE), Dominik Druzeta (CRO), Jim Heijman (NED) and Nicklas Bloechl (GER) as medal contenders. Matniyazova takes first home gold, Sook makes history for Denmark

Gulnoza Matniyazova (UZB) successfully retained the Tashkent Grand Prix title to win Uzbekistan’s first gold medal in this year’s edition while runner-up Emilie Sook (DEN) took her country’s very first medal on the IJF World Judo Tour.
