Russian heavyweight Soslan Bostanov won his first World Cup in Montevideo in 2014 and collected over 10 medals. In 2016 he won silver at the Czech Open in Prague and took silver at the Grand Slam in Moscow in 2012 and bronze at the Grand Slam in Tyumen in 2015. He was Russian champion in 2014. He captured bronze at the Grand Prix The Hague in 2017. Bostanov won the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2018. He took a silver medal at the European Open in Madrid in 2018.

Czech Republic can be proud of its performance at the European Open in Prague. The Czech athletes claimed two gold medals, silver and bronze, good enough for the victory in the medal table. Sunday’s gold medal for Lukas Krpalek was expected, the 2014 World Champion was the highest seeded athlete of all 270. Krpalek won his category among 28 men. Japanese judoka Harasawa Hisayoshi showed the difference the last year has made to his judo as he defeated Tbilisi Grand Prix bronze medallist Aslan Kambiev of Russia to win +100kg gold. The heavyweight finalists had never met before and it was Harasawa who registered his name first in the win column as he threw beautifully with an uchi-mata after 90 seconds for ippon having led by a yuko.
