Turkish Judo champion Merivan Tankos is originally Dutch youth champion with Turkish background. She claimed a bronze medal in 2014 at the Dutch senior championships. She switched to Turkey in 2015 and won a medal at Turkish Junior Championships followed with the Turkish senior title in 2016. She won silver at the European Cup in Sarajevo in 2016.

France at full strength with Teddy Riner at Grand Prix Samsun

398 athletes from 68 nations kick-off for the Grand Prix in Samsun on Friday. Of course a big team from Turkey with 52 athletes will compete and the eyecatchers are the women fighting at Day 1 U48kg where Dilara Lokmanhekim and Ebru Sahin will fight for the top positions. Both are potential Olympic participants for Turkey, but only one can go. They are ranked closely, Lokmanheim at 13, Sahin at 14 in the latest Olympic Ranking. Ceric and Samardzic capture gold for Bosnia Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrate two gold medals in one day at the European Cup in Sarajevo. For its own crowd Larisa Ceric celebrated a gold medal in the women’s heavyweight category. For Ceric her sixth victory in Sarajevo in a row, an outstanding record. In a field of 11 women Ceric was the strongest. In the final she overcame Milca Zabic of Serbia. Read more

Merivan Tankos switches from Netherlands to Turkey

Another Dutch judoka switches nation. Merivan Tankos got approval of the IJF to switch to Turkey. Tankos should fill the gap U70kg of the Turkish team, however there’s a lot of competition with Sükran Bakacak, Aycan Durmusoglu, Semanur Erdogan, Mihriban Öner and Rukiyye Ozerdem who lives in Austria.
