Hwang Ye-Sul won the Asian Games in 2010 in Guangzhou U70kg. She was Asian Champion in 2011 and 2012 U70kg. Hwang won World Cups since 2009 starting in Ulaanbaatar. Her main wins are the IJF World masters in 2010 and Grand Prix Jeju in 2013. Hwang is the last judoka to beat Ronda Rousey in 2010. Hwang won silver at the Grand Prix in Qingdao in 2016.

Japanese Ike Erina won her second IJF Grand Prix gold medal with a bold display on day two in Qingdao. Previously she won the Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix. On Saturday Ike, who finished a notable fifth at the Tokyo Grand Slam last year, faced former World Judo Masters winner Hwang Ye-Sul (KOR) in the final as the South Korean standout was fighting for the very first time in 2016. Reigning Ulaanbaatar Grand Prix silver medallist Tsend-Ayush Naranjargal (MGL) went one better this year as she defeated Asian champion Hwang Ye-Sul (KOR) to hear the Mongolian anthem as she stood on top of the medal podium of the Grand Prix in Ulaanbaatar.
