Odbayar Ganbaatar from Mongolia took gold at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2017. He won world bronze in 2017 in Budapest. He won 13 World Cup medals since 2010 such as bronze in Havana in 2016. Ganbaatar won 5 medals in Ulaanbaatar and Grand Prix medals in Abu Dhabi, Qingdao and Tbilisi. Ganbaatar won medals at Asian Championships in 2015 and Asian Games silver in 2014. He finished fifth at the 2015 and 2018 World Championships. He won the Champions League with Sporting Clube Portugal Lisbon in 2018

Sporting Clube Lisbon have won the first edition of the Champions League. In Bucharest the strong Portuguese team captured the gold after three excellent bronze medals over the last year, but this medal tops it. Mongolian maestro Ganbaatar follows Worlds medal with Abu Dhabi gold

World bronze medallist Ganbaatar Odbayar of Mongolia has now won four medals from his last four events and is arguably the form judoka in the weight category. Ganbaatar won Grand Slam gold for the first time in May before claiming his first Worlds Championships medal in August and has now returned to the top of a Grand Slam podium. Read more

Soichi Hashimoto claims expected gold medal U73kg

Japan captured another gold medal, their fifth in total and eight medals in total counting juist three days of fighting in Budapest. Soichi Hashimoto was the expected winner, and despite 73 judoka in this category U73kg, still the favourites were able to win the medal. Ganbaatar Odbayar was more of a surprise medal for Mongolia, another one from this relative new judo country. Read more
