Gwak Dong Han (KOR) won Jeju Grand Prix gold for the second year in a row as he bested Baku Grand Slam bronze medallist Mammadali Mehdiyev (AZE) in the -90kg final. Korea’s -90kg hope duly delivered once again as he went ahead with a waza-ari from an osoto-gari before bring the crowd to their feet with a morote-eri-seoi-nage for ippon. Read more

Kyu-Won Lee secures the second Korean Grand Slam victory

Former world champion Lee Kyu-Won (KOR) took the honours in the U90kg final of the Grand Slam of Paris world silver medallist Varlam Liparteliani was unable to fight due to injury. In the first semi-final Lee Kyu-Won defeated 19-year-old Tokyo Grand Slam winner Baker Mashu (JPN) by the smallest of margins as the former was penalised twice while Baker received three shido penalties. At the same stage Liparteliani battled past Marc Odenthal (GER) as he won by kesa-gatame. Read more

Takato defeats Galstyan in ECCO Team Challenge

Europe has won the challenge against Asia. In the occasion of the ECCO Judo Team Challenge in Tyumen, the team of Europe defeated Asia by 10-4. The first successful shot was by Alesya Kuznetsova who defeated World Champion Munkhbat Urantsetseg. A good start for the European team. However it was World Champion Naohisa Takato who made the equalizer against Olympic Champion Arsen Galstyan. Nakato remained undefeated but is not ready yet to attend the Grand Slam of Paris. Mashu Baker gives Japan an insight in his talent

Japanese super talent Mashu Baker upset 2012 Tokyo Grand Slam winner Lee Kyu-Won (KOR) to win -90kg gold in front of a capacity crowd. Baker and Lee both received a shido for going out of the area after 40 seconds before the South Korean was penalised with a shido for a false attack. After Baker received a shido for passivity to restore parity, Lee turned out of a ouchi-gari attempt at the halfway point only for the Japanese tyro to throw him from the floor with a uchi-mata for a yuko score.
