Spanish judoka Laia Talarn from Valencia won the Pan American Open in Santiago in 2014 and collected some more World Cup medals starting in 2013 in Madrid. She is Spanish champion U78kg since 2014. Talarn won the African Open in Port Louis in 2015 and PanAm Open Lima in 2016. She took a bronze medal at the European Open in Lisbon in 2018. She won the European Cup in Malaga in 2018. She won the Spanish title in 2018 in Caceres.

The European Cup in Malaga was a sort of comeback event for many judoka. We saw a few familiar faces in the circuit who haven’t been active for many reasons. World Junior Champions knock on the door in Lisbon

A German final for women U70kg at the European Open in Odivelas, outside of Lisbon. World Junior Champion Giovanna Scoccimarro again defeated Sarah Maekelburg. Russia and Brazil make the difference at PanAm Open in Lima

The team of Russia became the winner of the Pan American Open in Lima. With three gold medals, three silver and two bronze the Russians showed a good form. Brazil and Spain both captured two titles. At the second day it was Kirill Denisov who defeated Walter Facente in the final U90kg. Last year Denisov also won the tournament in Santiago exactly one year ago. In a pretty good field Zack Piontek (RSA) and Eduardo Bettoni (BRA) finished with bronze. Read more

African Open Port Louis seems a good investment

The strong Russian team won three gold medals at the African Open in Port Louis. The event was also a good result for three African judoka who won three gold medals on Sunday. Assmaa Niang won gold U70kg. Each year she books an important victory, although last year’s Grand Prix victory in Düsseldorf is more important than today’s motivational gold in Mauritius. Niang beat Irina Gazieva in the final in a field that wasn’t too bad. Read more
