Cuban Olympic team aims for two medals

The Cuban selection was announced but no surprises. The only historic surprise is that there was no one selected in the category U52kg, a category where Cuba won the Olympic title in 2000 and silver in 2012 by Yanet Bermoy. Over the last three Olympic Games Yurisleidys Lupetey qualified for the category U57kg, also this weight division is absent in the Cuban selection. Read more

Brazil shines in Olympic year at PanAm Championships

Brazil dominates the Pan American Championships in Havana are having completed the first day. With five gold medals, the target was more than reached. Canada and United States were able to win one title. Spain was the most successful country at the first day of the Pan American Open in Buenos Aires. The strong team of just 6 Spanish in action won four medals. Sugoi Uriarte seemed to secure his participation at the Olympic Games in Rio with gold U66kg. Jaione Equisoain also won gold for her nation defeating Yadinys Amaris of Colombia in the category U57kg. Russian women warmup at Panam Open in Lima

World number six U52kg Natalia Kuziutina made her comeback at the Pan American Open in Lima with a victory. The Russian female star and Olympic hope celebrated her return with a traditional warmup in South America where this weekend’s first PanAm Open is held in Peru. Last year she won silver in Santiago and gold in Montevideo. Next week the PanAm Open is in Buenos Aires (ARG) and in two week’s time in Santiago (CHI). Kuziutina defeated Laura Gomez of Spain.
