Dutch judoka Michael Korrel captured bronze at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo. He took gold at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2017. He won the Grand Prix in Budapest in 2016. Korrel won the Grand Slam of Paris in 2018 and Grand Slam Baku in 2017 and 2019. He took European bronze in 2016. Korrel won 13 medals in the IJF Tour. Korrel took 3 silver medals at European Junior Championships and U23. He is quadruple Dutch champion. He took a silver medal at the IJF Masters in St. Petersburg in 2017.

Kazbek Zankishiev salvages gold for Russia

Russian Kazbek Zankishiev won his country’s first and only gold medal in Tbilisi as he prevailed against a shot-shy Cancun Grand Prix bronze medallist Rafael Buzacarini (BRA). The Brazilian had never won an IJF gold medal and you could see why on this showing as he picked up three shidos to gift the gold medal to the Russian Hohhot Grand Prix silver medallist who now has a hat-trick of Grand Prix titles.
