British judoka Natalie Powell claimed bronze at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest. She finished 7th at the Rio Olympic Games. Powell won the Grand Prix in Astana in 2014 U78kg. One of her highlights was the victory at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. She took bronze at the European Championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018. In 2018 Grand Slam in Düsseldorf and Grand Prix Antalya. In total more than 30 World Cup medals. She took bronze at the 2018 World Masters in Guangzhou.

Great Britain’s record at Olympic Games level over the years has been equally as sketchy. To date they have won only eighteen Olympic medals in Judo since it was added to the Summer games schedule way back in 1964. Neil Adams is still the most successful British judoka after winning silver in the men’s U71 kg category in 1980 in Moscow, Russia, and again in the men’s U78 kg category in 1984 in Los Angeles, USA. The first female final of the third day at the Grand Prix in Tel Aviv pitted the 17th in the World Ranking List, winner of the Tashkent Grand Prix in 2019, Bernadette Graf (AUT), with the 2017 world bronze medalist, Natalie Powell (GBR). It took less than two minutes for Natalie Powell to complete a smoothly led final, thanks to a first waza-ari from a harai-goshi and a flawless ippon via o-uchi-gari. Kaliema Antomarchi second ever Cuban to win a Grand Slam

Austria’s Bernadette Graf captured the gold medal at the Grand Prix in Tashkent U78kg. It was her second victory in the IJF World Tour in her “new” weight class U78kg. In total it was her fifth Grand Prix gold medal. Graf wins a World Cup almost each year except last year. This time however she already won twice.
